How do I create custom dashboards?

Because each application environment is built on a unique set of hosts, services, and infrastructure components, and because each organization has different workflow requirements for its teams, Dynatrace makes it easy to create your own fully customizable dashboards. You can easily create, modify, delete, and switch between dashboards.

Create a custom dashboard

  1. Select Dashboards from the navigation menu.
  2. Click the Create dashboard button.
  3. Type in a Dashboard name and click Create. The dashboard then opens in edit mode.
  4. Customize your new dashboard with new sections and tiles, as explained below.
  5. Select a default analysis time frame for your tile by clicking the Default time frame button in the upper-right corner of the dashboard.
  6. Once you've finished configuring your new dashboard, click Done.

Section and tiles

Once in edit mode, you can create new sections for your custom dashboard and populate the sections with relevant tiles.

To add a new section to your custom dashboard

  1. While in dashboard edit mode, click New section and type a name for the section.
  2. Click the checkmark button to save the new section.

To create a custom tile for your dashboard

  1. While in dashboard edit mode, click Add new tile.
  2. Select a relevant tile from the Tile catalog. Browse through the tile categories on the left (see image below), to find the most appropriate tile for your unique needs. For example, as a business owner, you may be most interested in tiles included in the Business category. The Applications and Availability categories will also likely be of interest to you. Tiles included in the Services and Databases categories are particularly useful for developers, while tiles in the Infrastructure and Availability categories are ideally suited for Operations staff.
  3. Configure the new tile as indicated.
  4. Click Add tile to save the tile to your dashboard in the specified section.

To delete a tile from your dashboard

  1. While in dashboard edit mode, click the browse button (...) in the upper-right corner of the tile and select Delete.
  2. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

To delete a dashboard

  1. Select Dashboards from the navigation menu.
  2. Click the browse button (...) in the upper-right corner of the tile and select Delete.
  3. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

To change a dashboard to the basic layout

  1. Select Dashboards from the navigation menu.
  2. Select the dashboard you want to configure.
  3. Click the browse button (...) in the upper-right corner of the dashboard and select Set basic layout.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the layout change.

Time frame selector

Dynatrace dashboards are continuously updated with real-time monitoring data (at up to 1-minute refresh intervals) as long as the browser tab that displays Dynatrace remains visible.

You can adjust the analysis time frame of any dashboard. The time frame selector enables you to select a specific analysis time frame for each dashboard.

You can define varying default analysis time frames for your dashboarding purposes. For example, you can set a default time frame of Last 7 days for your real user monitoring dashboard and Last 2 hours for your infrastructure health monitoring dashboard.

Multiple dashboards

With a few dashboards at your fingertips, you may feel the urge to have all your dashboards open at the same time in multiple browser tabs. Go for it! This is perfectly okay.

Home dashboard

Use the Home dashboard button to return to your home dashboard at any time. For example, imagine that you’ve drilled down through a few pages in the course of investigating the root cause of a problem. To return to your home dashboard, just click the Home dashboard button in the upper left corner, as shown below.
