How do I update Dynatrace?

Automatic agent updates

We’ve built an auto-update mechanism into Dynatrace OneAgent so you don’t have to worry about manually updating the agents that are running in your environment. You will always remain on the latest, most secure and most advanced version of Dynatrace OneAgent without having to worry about manually installing anything.

By default, automatic updates are turned off. You can enable auto-update either for all your Dynatrace OneAgent installations or for individual hosts. When you do this, we’ll stop notifying you that your Dynatrace OneAgent is outdated. With automatic updates enabled each time a new version is released, Dynatrace OneAgent downloads all necessary binaries and libraries and installs them for you. No manual configuration required.

Following Dynatrace OneAgent auto-updates, you must restart all server processes for continued deep-process monitoring.

Some components of Dynatrace OneAgent, keep running in the processes that Dynatrace monitors (for example, Java, .NET, Apache, IIS, etc.). Those processes continue to be monitored with the previous version of Dynatrace OneAgent until they are restarted. After the restart, those processes are also monitored with the latest version.

Global auto-update across all hosts

To enable Dynatrace OneAgent automatic updates for all your hosts:

  1. Go to Settings > Updates.
  2. Switch on Automatically update all agents.

Going forward, whenever a new version of Dynatrace OneAgent becomes available all your installed agents will download the update and upgrade their binaries and configuration files.

Individual host auto-updates

To control auto-updates individually per host:

  1. Go to Settings > Monitoring overview.
  2. Click the Edit icon of the host you want to modify.
  3. On the Host settings page, switch Dynatrace OneAgent automatic updates to either on or off.

Manual updates on individual hosts

  2. To update Dynatrace OneAgent or download the latest version, click the Edit icon.
